Unread 4.9.9 is available from the App Store.
This update works around a bug in the macOS 27 beta. In macOS 27 developer beta 5, which Apple posted on Monday, using a tracking separator in a toolbar results in a nasty drawing bug. This tracking separator is what keeps the Mark All Read toolbar item to the right side of the article list pane and the Mark Read/Unread toolbar item to the left side of the article pane in a viewer window when using the default toolbar settings. I described the bug in more detail in a post on my personal blog.
The bug has not made it to the public beta of macOS 27, but I anticipate that happening imminently.
In order to work around this, I removed that tracking separator entirely when the app is running on the macOS 27 beta. This makes the toolbar look a bit cluttered on the macOS 27 beta, but it is a significant improvement over the drawing bug.
This change does not affect the app when running on released versions of macOS (version 26.x or earlier). I am hopeful that Apple will address this before releasing macOS 27. If they do, I will reinstate the tracking separator. If not, I will investigate better approaches.
Roughly 14% of my customers running Unread for Mac are doing so on beta versions of macOS 27, so it is important to keep the app running well on macOS 27 even while it is in beta.
Unread 4.9.9 also includes modest improvements to the in-app webpage text generator.
